You can find us in Box village
at the traffic lights on the A4. Only 7 miles from Chippenham, just 5
miles from Bath and 20 minutes from junctions 17 or 18 on the M4.
Bath and Chippenham have mainline stations on the Paddington to Bristol
line and National Coaches pick up and drop in the village. There are also
regular local bus services both to and from Chippenham and Bath.
If you are traveling from further afield, Heathrow Airport is just over
an hour away and, due to great road planning, so is Bristol Airport.

A
little bit about the village...
Box is in the county of Wiltshire,
6 miles North East of Bath, 102 miles from London and is one of the largest
Parishes in England.
The mainline railway passes through Box Tunnel, which was built in 1841
by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and is nearly 2 miles long. It was also the
inspiration for Rev W. Awdry, the creator Thomas the Tank Engine, who
lived in Box.
Under Box Hill there are extensive freestone mines and the majority of
buildings in Bath were built using stone quarried in Box. It also traveled
farther afield. The Parliament buildings in Canada was built using Bath
Stone.
The church, dedicated to St. Thomas à Becket, was built in C14th
and in the graveyard there's a pyramid shaped tombstone, known locally
as the Pinnacle Stone, which was built so the wife of the man buried there
couldn't dance on his grave.
There is also a pilgrims' chapel at nearby Chapel Plaister whose most
notorious resident was highwayman, John Poulter, who was known to shelter
here and to load his pistols in the nearby pub. He was executed at Salisbury
- the last to be hanged in the county of Wiltshire.
A Roman villa once stood near the church and because, allegedly, Box grew
nearby they named the village after it.
So
you see The
Bear
and Box
are well worth a visit... and we
look forward to seeing you very soon.
